I must first send a huge thank you to the handful of people who signed up for my very first meal on December 3rd. I thoroughly enjoyed doing one of the things I do best - cooking for other people. Though the number of orders was under where I was hoping it would be I was able to get my feet wet as a business owner/chef.
The meal included slow-cooked barbecue pork, homemade soft rolls, and coleslaw loaded with choppped veggies. In the years that I have been making the barbecue pork for my own family I must say that yesterday's batch was one of the best I've made - perfectly tender and just slightly spicy.
One of my clients from yesterday shared this note in an email, "Great job on tonight's dinner. We loved it all and were very impressed with the homemade buns...nice touch."
Another thank you goes to Jean Eick at the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza for mentioning my business venture in the December 3rd issue of her Village Notes: What's happening in our community.
Jean wrote, "Another new business in town to check out is going to interest anyone who likes to eat, but especially anyone looking for a family meal once a week. Meals By Maggie is now open and is a non-traditional catering company that provides family style meals one day a week."
Next week's menu will include Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Asiago-Black Pepper Drop biscuits. More information will follow in my next post.
